Jon joined Dixons Academies as a student teacher in 2010 at Dixons City Academy and then in that same year secured his first teaching post as Teacher of RE at the school. During his time at Dixons City, Jon was Head of RE and Sociology, before becoming Head of Humanities. In 2016, Jon moved to Dixons McMillan Academy as Head of Humanities and Literacy. In 2017, he secured his current position as Assistant Vice Principal responsible for Literacy and Stretch.

Prior to his career in teaching, Jon worked as a researcher at the University of Leeds, the University of Sheffield and for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Castleford. Jon is a graduate from Durham University, where he studied for his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Theology before he worked towards achieving a Distinction in his Masters in Theological Research. His academic interests include the Philosophy of Religion and the relationship between religion and modern society.

Jon has taught RE from KS3 to A Level and has also taught A Level Sociology. Alongside his love of RE, he has a passion for developing the literacy of young people and has worked hard both as a classroom teacher and on a whole-school level to do so. Jon’s sentence is that he is committed to inspire others to be intrigued by the world and to develop a love of wisdom.
