The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expeditions 2025
Posted 4th July 2025
As part of our wider curriculum offer, all students in Year 9 have a lesson each week where they study the skills required in order to complete the Bronze level of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. This culiminates in Cycle 3 where all students take part in their expedition, which involves a 2-day long hike across the West Yorkshire countryside along with a night under canvas at a campsite. Yet again, students were absolutely fantastic and truly demonstrated our values of resilience, integrity and courtesy.
Meanwhile, 39 Year 10 students have chosen to continue their participation in the Award scheme, and completed their Silver Award expedition this week. This involved a longer, 3-day 2-night walk and camp from their starting point on Day 1 near Bingley across Baildon Moor, followed by another walk into Wharfedale and across Ilkley Moor on Day 2. The final day involved walking along the River Wharfe to the medieval ruined monastery of Bolton Abbey, where students finished. Their motivation to succeed was evident and they used our drivers of mastery, autonomy and purpose to get across the finish line. Well done to both Year 9 and Year 10 for completing this year's expeditions!
