McMillan reach the reach the regional finals of the Young Enterprise Awards

Posted 28th April 2026

Our Year 10 students who are part of the Young Enterprise programme did exceptionally well today in the local finals. Their behaviour, teamwork, business skills, and the way they represented our school were outstanding throughout the competition.

The Young Enterprise initiative is where teams of students create their own business idea, come up with a business plan and then put it into action by selling their product to turn a profit. This year's team from McMillan has focused on creating decorative bouquets of flowers from pipe cleaners. These have been a roaring success, appearing in many offices around the school building and being sold to parents and families at many of our events this year.

The team were competing today against Year 12 and 13 students from schools such as North Halifax Grammar School and Huddersfield New College, who are doing this as part of their courses and not - like our students are - as an after-school club. In a fantastic achievement, our team  won the Creativity Award and were also named as runners-up, which means they have now been invited to the regional finals in Leeds! A huge well done to all involved!
