Partnerships in sport

At Dixons McMillan Academy, we believe sport is a powerful way to build character, resilience, and teamwork. Through our strong partnerships with professional clubs, universities, and organisations, our students access a wide range of exciting opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Bradford Bulls Foundation

We have proudly partnered with the Bradford Bulls Foundation for over three years. Their coaches, including first team players and foundation trainees, deliver rugby as part of our Key Stage 3 curriculum for both boys and girls, as well as running an after-school rugby club.

Beyond rugby, the Foundation has introduced students to new sports and experiences, including an after-school fencing club, wheelchair rugby for enrichment and employability days, and even staff wellbeing sessions. In return, we provide the use of our field for the Bradford Bulls women’s team.

Bradford City AFC

Our partnership with Bradford City Football Club creates brilliant opportunities for our students. We have taken part in their schools tournament with both boys’ and girls’ teams, earning match day tickets and a donated football kit for the academy. Year 11 students also visit the club to tour its facilities and learn about pathways into sport and education, while club representatives regularly join us for employability day workshops.

Bradford College

Through our partnership with Bradford College, we enjoy use of their 3G pitch in exchange for match day field access. Students also attend special events such as the Girls in Sport day, where they experience new activities, explore college gym facilities, and hear from guest speakers across different sports including dance, cricket, and fitness.

Yorkshire Martyrs

For our enrichment day, Yorkshire Martyrs generously provided coaches free of charge to deliver cheerleading sessions to our Year 8 students, an exciting opportunity that broadened our students’ sporting experiences.

Leeds Beckett University

We welcomed Dr Ffion Thompson from Leeds Beckett University to deliver a sports science workshop to our Year 8 students during our recent enrichment day. We look forward to further collaboration with their PE department, particularly in developing work around physical literacy.

PE Scholar and Oak Academy

We were delighted to host PE Scholar and Oak Academy as they filmed yoga workshops with our students. These resources are now live on their website as teaching tools, showcasing our students’ commitment and talent to a national audience.
